General Reserve Info

For additional information, Dinokeng Reserve became a Big 5 area only as recent 2011, thus the Reserve is only 8 years old and in a process of establishment.

Comparing with other Reserves in the Country like Kruger Park (1926), Pilansberg (1979), Entambeni (1985) , Rietvlei Reserve (1948, Not a Big 5) we are very proud to say we have had tremendous growth in 8 years.

This leave this young Dinokeng Game Reserve with ample challenge, due to the “Old” and “New”, Infrastructure’s.

Just one tarred road, currently still a National road, two District dirt roads.

These roads are still being used by the Community as pass through ways.

The internal roads are mainly for private use, seeing that all the Land belongs to Private owners, but with way of right for our animals.

Therefore, there is exclusive area’s that can only be reached by booking a “Game Drive” via one off our Lodge’s. “Game Viewers”.

These areas is also known as “Safe Zone Areas” for the game and limited to the public.

A “Self drive route”, Wilderness Way , has been establish in the Reserve for Day Visitors, currently only one “Entrance Gate” situated on the “De Wagendrif “ dirt road, between Safari Mall and Nyathi Gate.

Visitors making use of the “Self Drive route” must enter and pay at this Gate, a Daily Conservation fee.

The fee’s being used for Conservation and up-keep of current infrastructure.

The “Self Drive route” consist of approximately 135km dirt roads, whereby certain areas is friendly for normal sedan motor cars.

Other areas rather need a vehicle with better ground clearance, and some area’s even needs 4×4, with very pleasant picnic spots to make use for Day Visitors.

Although we are in very close range to major cities, we are still very rural in all infrastructure and not commercialised, but with plenty City like Lodge’s and accommodation.

Before coming to visit our Reserve make yourself aware of the different park Entrances to avoid running kilometers on dirt roads to reach your destination.

There are 5 Entrance gates to the Reserve.

  1. Tau Gate , also known as the Main Gate, on Hamanskraal Off Ramp from N1. Just off the off-ramp u will find a tar road on the left running along with the N1, turn on this road and follow thru the community for 4km to the Main Gate.
  2. Ndlovu Gate , also on the same off-ramp from Hamanskraal, N1, keep straight, 300m of the tar surface, you will find this Gate, also known as the Information Centre Gate.
  3. Yingwe Gate on the tar road, also known as the Rust De Winter entrance.
  4. Tsukulu Gate, situated on the (R734) also known as the Kloppersbos/Boekenhoutskloof road.
  5. Nyathi Gate , closes entrance from Moloto Road.

Advisable, will be to enter at the “Tau Gate” main entrance, close to N1 Highway, Hammanskraal off ramp, tar road till Safari Mall (9km) that will be reached on your left.
